Kadhal Quadrilateral [part 1]

Once, not too long ago, there lived a girl who was hungry for love. Lets say her name was Kuppakumari. Kuppu, for short. Now Kuppu, meets the most handsome guy on earth. His name was Gopalakrishnaswamy. Gopal, for short and Gopi for shorter. It was love at first sight for Kuppu darling and she needed to find a way to catch Gopi's attention. Gopi, on the other hand, had no clue of who she was, as he was so absorbed in his popular world. All the girls adored Gopi. He was the sweetheart of the school.
So our girl gets a few of her girlfriends to help her out. One of them, Mariammal gets Kuppu to her friend Venkatasubramanian. Venky, for short. Venky knew Gopi a little better than Mariammal did. So together, Venky and Kuppu with their combined efforts, tried to catch Gopi's attention.
Everyday, Kuppu would talk to Venky and ask him for his advice on anything she did. Day by day, Kuppu started to confess even her dark secrets to Venky, who turned out to be a close friend of hers. Day by day, she felt more attracted towards her best friend than the man she was supposedly in love with. Day by day, she felt her self unconsiously fall out of love with her one and only Gopi and completely in love with her best pal Venky.
Kuppu's condition was BAD. She knew that if she told anyone about her latest, they would be outraged. Why, actually? Oh, yes. Here comes a fourth person. Venky's true love, Tirupurasundari. Tirupu, for short. If any of her friends got to know that she was trying to get in the way of their love, they would definitely be outraged. Venky was so madly in love with Tirupu that he wouldnt have even noticed Kuppu's feelings increasing every second she was with him.
Or so she thought.
Venky was constantly pestered by his gal, Tirupu, about Kuppu. Tirupu was obviously posessive and didnt like the thought of Kuppu spending too much time with her boyfriend. She insisted that there was something going on between the both of them, and wasn't convinced at all when Venky tried to explain to her how madly Kuppu was in love with Gopi. She insisted that Kuppu's attention has shifted from her supposedly true love to her own boyfriend. Venky never understood her. But they argued about it so much, that they once reached a point where it started to become a joke. So things started to get a little lighter.
But Tirupu's point of view gave Venky some wrong ideas. He started to imagine himself with Kuppu. At first he found it highly amusing but when he actually started to think about it deeply, he could completely picture himself in the situation, as comfortable as ever. He tried to wean away from these bad thoughts as he did no want to spoil two relationships: his with Tirupu and with Kuppu herself, because he knew how she was stuck to Gopi.
So together, simultaneously, Kuppu and Venky lived controlling their feelings, emotions and thoughts, keeping it locked up right inside. Every time they met each other they felt that same pang- but there was absolutely nothing that they had to say to each other. Their relationship was such that it couldn't be called friendship, and it couldn't be called love.
Venky was trying not to forget Tirupu, who was also his best friend, and Kuppu had completely forgotten about Gopi.
But somewhere on the other side of town, Gopalakrishna, all of a sudden, remembers a beautiful girl who was introduced to him by some friend.............. he thinks it was Venky. He remembers her smile and the excited look on her face. But he also remembered that he couldn't stay long and chat that day because he was worried he would miss his basketball tryouts. So he rudely excused himself and he remembers that disappointed look in her eye...
He needed to call Venky. And badly. When the phone rang, his mum picked up and told Gopi that he was out. Gopi, trying his luck, asks if, by any chance, she happens to know the name of "the girl with whom Venky generally hangs". And then, without any hesitation, Venky's mum tells Gopi her name. Kuppakumari. What a beautiful name!
Throughout the night, Gopi stays awake thinking of this girl, picturing the smile that he had put on her face, and then remembering the sad face that he had also put on her. Over and over again, he felt the same pang of guilt, and he knew he has to do something about it. Everytime he thought of this girl, he felt something that he had never felt about any of his "girlies". He felt as though the whole world was for the both of them. As though the other mundane things in life didn't even matter. As though the only thing that mattered was the both of them. He was in love. And he had to do something about it.
